Speak Essay

In the story Speak the main character Melinda is just a freshman trying not to mess up her "freshman reputation" but she feels it’s been too late. The book describes Melinda's life in and out of school. There are many symbols in the book Speak that show how she has felt she's already messed up.

One thing that I feel the novel speak uses as a symbol is mirrors. In the beginning of the book Melinda was stressed out and went to her room and just sat there and cried. As she was lying on her bed she looked up and saw her reflection in the mirror on her closet door. For some reason she got up and put the mirror into her closet so she wouldn't need to look at herself any longer. Melinda also went into the senior’s area of the high school which is an area where the freshman would never go, but at that point Melinda didn't care who are what came in her way. As she was on her "adventure" in the senior area during a assembly for the school, she found a old janitors closet and decided to make it her own. For example it would be an area where she would be able to go where no one would be able to find her or see her cry because once again she knew no one would enter that area. After exploring through the old closest she noticed that there was a cracked mirror and she told herself that the mirror would have to go right away. After her second time visiting the janitor’s closet she had put a poster over the mirror that was cracked.
Another example in Speak of Melinda’s life outside of school is that her family uses little notes to talk to each other and tell each other what’s going on. In the story Melinda doesn’t really make a big deal that her mom or dad have left another note, it’s just like a daily thing. She does say it’s just the way they have communicated and that she is used to it. I feel that the notes symobize

Obviously in the novel Melinda is ashamed of herself and isn't able to look in the mirror. There are many people in this world just like Melinda from Speak. There are different ways people will react to them being ashamed of themselves. For example being suicidal and trying to purposely hurt themselves. It is a very serious issue in this world that has been going on for ages. Melinda is ashamed because she had crashed a party and everyone at her school had ratted on her and brought her down for it. Since the first day of school she has felt like everyone was giving dirty looks and stares at her. I'm pretty sure if that was happening to yourself you would feel the same as Melinda and soon the people staring at you would rub on you and soon yourself would be ashamed of your looks and who you are. I feel everyone can learn something from the Novel speak and maybe even relate to it, just remember next time how you react to something that someone else has done or something you have done because you never know how the other person or even you will react to it.

Snowboarding

Have you ever heard of snowboarding or a snowboard? Snowboarding is a very fun activity that usually happens during the Winter in Wisconsin or some people go to other states where there would be snow during the summer time in Wisconsin. Although many people think snowboarding is a very fun activity 19.4 males have at least one wrist injury a year JUST from snowboarding and women have 26.4 wrist injuries. I wonder why women would have a more percentage? A ankle injuring is 2.13 more constant on a snowboarder more than someone who skis. I feel snowboarders have more ankle injuries because their feet are attached to the board an so if they flip or fail their ankle is hurt more, and when people who ski fall their feet would just pop out. 13.4 for snowboarders usually will have a little concussion or a major concussion once every year. As you can see already that snowboarding is a very dangerous activity but also is very fun if you are VERY careful.  Just be careful on the slopes if you are a snowboarder or even someone who skis.

Somehow explaining mudding?

I never really thought of how I would write a blog on explaining mudding. Well, first off mudding everyone says is for "hicks" but that's just other people. Haha. Okay, for mudding you can usually do it with a fourwheeler, truck or jeep. When I have gone mudding I usually use a fourwheeler. Now, the point I guess is to get full of mud? You have to find land that is just a mud ground, and usually wait till it rains out. Right after it rains out you bring your truck, jeep, or fourwheeler and just drive really fasst through it. The tires will fling mud everywhere! You can do like doughnuts and everything in the mud. Haha. Yeah so that's a little short description of mudding.  Here's a picture what it looks like.

A Clean Well Lighted Place

Have you ever known someone who has had a drinking problem? In the story A Clean Well Lighted Place, there is an old man who did have a drinking problem. Most nights he would go to the bar and just drink. Not only did he have a drinking problem but he also was deaf.
The young waiter was very disrespectful.  He thinks that once you have money and you’re a rich man then you are happy and satisfied. One customer he had he was very familiar with drank a lot and was deaf. The young waiter never treated him right. Knowing the old man tried to commit suicide he told him while pouring him another glass of brandy that he wishes he had killed himself when he was going to earlier. He kept complaining on how he wanted to go home to his wife and because of the old man he never got home earlier than 3 o’clock. Knowing that the old man had a wife and probably she died during their marriage he still didn’t care and was being selfish.
The old man had gone suicidal. Nobody knew why he was trying to kill himself because he had a lot of money. His niece saved him before he died from trying to hang himself. The old man went to the bar place all the time and ALWAYS drank at least enough brandies to be able to stack the cups into two rows. The people at the bar knew that if he was drunk enough he would leave and not pay for the nights drinks. He also was deaf and the waiters would try to communicate and say no more or we are closing but he never cared, he just kept on drinking.
The old waiter was nice and calm. He was able to relate to the old man because neither of them had a wife. The old waiter stayed after with the man once the young waiter would complain repeatedly about how he wants to go home to his wife. The old waiter would never do or say much.

Hemingway created these three characters to show that money doesn't always buy happiness. Just because you have money doesn't mean that everything is okay for you. The old man had money, but he's not happy at all; he's suicidal and an alcoholic.

Silent Library

SILENCE! 1,2,3 *grab the cards*...1,2,3 *flip the cards*..Tommy, Allie, Peter, Cal, Savannah, and the other Tommy are all participating in "The Silent Library". This is the last round and they knew they had to be quiet.  Allie got the X..dah dah dahhhh! Tommy spins the wheel and to see what she has to do. "Spit balls" Everyone is trying not to laugh knowing what is all going to hit her. Allie goes and get the goggles and puts them on. Everyone else on the team grabs a spit ball pen and two pieces of paper. 1,2,3! Everybody starts firing their spit balls. Three of them all go to her hair. "EW!" Allie silently screamed. The last spit ball flew into her mouth..nobody could hold back their laughter any longer. "hahahahahahahahahahahahaha" everyone was grabbing their stomachs because of laughing way to hard. "You have failed.." said the asian man who stands at the counter with a buttload of  money..."ugh, we've only earned $200 each" Tommy said walking out taking the little money he earned. Allie was on the verge of puking while walking out. Everyone else grabbed their money and left. THE END! (:
